I think this is a fun book for children who are getting ready to start school, like me
From Dylan
I liked this book because it’s about your first day at school, and I’m going to start school soon. The colours and pictures were bright and happy, and I liked seeing all the things that happen at school, which made me feel excited about it.
I liked hearing about snacks, and break time, making mud pies, and getting to play with your friends. We’ve read the book a few times, and I think it is quite funny. I think this is a fun book for children who are getting ready to start school, like me.
From Mum and Dad:
We all enjoyed this book, and it was a great way of starting to talk more about the transition to school. Dylan did find it funny, but I do think some of the jokes were a bit lost on him – although this was a good way of opening up topics and us being able to explain different things to him.
I think once he has started school, some of it will make more sense e.g. “making funny sounds” = phonics / understanding what ‘the head’ / headteacher is, as Dylan didn’t understand all the references. Overall I think we’ll read this a few more times before he starts school, and continue after he has started when he’ll get different things out of it.
